Online CPD for Healthcare Professionals

GLP-1RA Therapy: The Complete Programme (Ozempic, Wegovy & Mounjaro)

Your patients are asking about Ozempic and Mounjaro – and the questions do not stop at “how does it work.”

Three courses + an integrative case study. Seven CPD hours. Everything you need for considered GLP-1RA therapy: Understand. Prescribe. Support.

WHO THIS PROGRAMME IS FOR

For healthcare professionals who manage – or expect to manage – patients on GLP-1RA therapy: explaining the science, prescribing safely, monitoring how they respond and knowing when to refer.

Ideal for: GPs, independent nurse prescribers, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician associates, pharmacists, dietitians, diabetes specialists, paramedics, physiotherapists, psychologists, mental health professionals, and other registered health professionals, whether or not you prescribe.

Be the reason a patient succeeds on a GLP-1RA, not just the reason they started one.

WHY HCPs NEED THIS PROGRAMME NOW

GLP-1RA therapy is not one decision. It is a sequence. Understand the science, or your expectations are guesswork. Prescribe well, or the right patient never starts safely. Support the long term, or early results unravel.
What of the patient on the wrong agent battling needless side effects? The one whose expectations were never set, who quits the moment the weight stalls? The strong start that comes apart because no one looked beyond the scale? Each of these traces back to a decision made earlier.
The Complete Programme takes you through all three courses as one: the pharmacology that sets honest expectations, the prescribing judgement that gets treatment started safely, and the long-term care that protects the result.
By the end, GLP-1RA care stops being a series of separate problems. You meet a patient at any point in their treatment and know exactly what it asks of you, so every appointment builds on the one before.

THIS PROGRAMME ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS

1. Why does semaglutide outperform liraglutide?

If you cannot explain it, you cannot set a patient’s expectations or answer a colleague who asks – and you will be asked, sooner than you think.

2. This patient is borderline. Do I prescribe, or not?
Get the eligibility judgement wrong and you either start someone who should not be on it, or turn away someone who qualified all along.

3. The weight has stopped. Is the treatment still doing its job?
Read the plateau as failure and you stop a therapy that is working; miss a real problem and you let one run on. Knowing which is which changes what you do next.

WHAT WILL I BE ABLE TO DO?

By the end of the programme, you will:

  • Explain the science in plain language – From brain signalling to gut hormones, you set out how GLP-1RAs work and why, in words a patient or colleague follows first time.
  • Make the prescribing decision and start treatment safely – You assess eligibility, select the appropriate agent, set honest expectations and initiate without missing a step.
  • Support a patient through the long term – You read the full response rather than the scales, protect nutrition and lean mass while appetite is low, manage dose decisions and refer at the moment it is needed.
  • Work with confidence across every stage of the pathway – You know where a patient is in their treatment and what it asks of you, so each appointment builds on the last.

WHAT OTHER LEARNERS SAY

ABOUT THE GLP-1RA COURSES

Practice Nurse – GLP-1RAs in Focus course
“The course was very easy to understand and informative for all levels. Learning how to explain how GLP-1s work was really valuable.”
Health Coach – GLP-1RAs in Focus course
“The most useful aspect was learning about the mechanisms of GLP-1RAs, and the future of these drugs. I intend to tell my colleagues about this course.”

Kyriakou, Doctor – GLP-1RAs Prescribing course
“I love how this course covered the initiation and titration and also how to choose the right treatment, and how to avoid adverse reactions. I feel much more confident to explain GLP-1RAs to my patients.”
Nicola, Independent Prescriber – GLP-1RAs Prescribing course
Everything improved: Prescribing knowledge – from 4/10 to 8/10; Confidence managing patients – from 0/10 to 8/10; Ability to prescribe safely – from 0/10 to 8.10
Yasthira, Dietitian – GLP-1RAs Supporting Patients course
“I really wanted to know how do I manage plateaus in weight and how do I continue to provide motivation to my patients when they see the number on the scale remaining the same. I rate this course a 10/10, and I would absolutely recommend it to my colleagues.”

MEET YOUR EXPERT EDUCATORS

Developed by practising GPs and CCH’s education team, blending front-line prescribing experience with current NICE guidance and the ADA 2026 Standards of Care.

Professor Mike Bewick, FRCP, FRCGP

GP, former Deputy Medical Director, NHS England

Mike presents the science course, translating the mechanism and the evidence into concepts that hold up in the clinic and in front of a patient.

Dr Dipesh Naik, MBBS MRCGP DPD MSc

GP and CCH Senior Digital Health Lecturer

Dipesh prescribes these medications himself, and presents the prescribing and ongoing-care courses as a colleague walking you through the judgements he makes week to week.

Nigel Hinchliffe, BSc (Hons), MSc

CCH Director of Education

Nigel wrote the programme, turning dense trial data and guidance into training that gives you the reasoning behind each decision rather than a list of rules to follow.

WHAT IS COVERED IN THE PROGRAMME

Three courses and a capstone case study.

Each part ends with a quiz and a Certificate of Completion.

Course 1. GLP-1RAs in Focus – Why Drugs Like Ozempic Work (2 CPD Hours)

The science. Know how GLP-1RAs work before you reach for them.

  • Introduction to the Course (5 min)
  • Part 1 – Introduction to GLP-1 Physiology (20 min)
  • Part 2 – GLP-1 Receptor Agonists: Mechanisms of Action (20 min)
  • Part 3 – The Scientific Evidence: Weight Loss, Glycaemic and Cardiovascular Outcomes (20 min)
  • Part 4 – GLP-1RA Drugs vs Other Treatments (15 min)
  • Quiz and Certificate of Completion (10 min)
  • Resource to keep: Quick Guide to Prescribing GLP-1RAs, plus a curated reading list

Course 2. GLP-1RAs in Practice: How to Safely Prescribe Ozempic, Wegovy & Mounjaro (2 CPD Hours)

The prescription. From the first decision to the first dose.

  • Part 1 – Who Qualifies? Knowing Where to Start (6 min)
  • Part 2 – Prescribing in the Real World: Navigating the Grey Areas (10 min)

The Capstone Assessment: One Patient, Every Decision (1 CPD Hour)

The complete picture. See 1 patient across the entire GLP-1RA journey.

The capstone presents a new patient case and follows them from how the drug works, through the decision to prescribe, to their long-term review. No new clinical content is taught. Instead you apply all three courses at once, working through the case and a short quiz the way you would reason in clinic. Pass it and gain your CCH Advanced Certificate in GLP-1RA Therapy.

HOW WILL I LEARN?

This programme is designed for clinicians who learn by doing. Each section moves from concept to application, so what you study maps directly onto the decisions you make in clinic.

  • Video lessons with full transcripts
  • Interactive e-learning units and clinical scenarios
  • Seven downloadable clinical tools to keep
  • Three end-of-course quizzes, plus a case-based capstone
  • Three Certificates of Completion and your CCH Advanced Certificate

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do I need to be a prescriber to enrol?

A: No. The prescribing course assumes prescribing responsibilities, but the science and long-term-care courses suit anyone supporting patients on these medications. Non-prescribers can complete the full programme and earn the Advanced Certificate.

Q: Can I claim this for appraisal and revalidation?

A: Yes. You earn seven CPD hours, with certificates suitable for appraisal and revalidation portfolios for the GMC, NMC, GPhC and HCPC.

Q: What is the CCH Advanced Certificate in GLP-1RA Therapy?

A: A certificate from The College of Contemporary Health, awarded once you complete all three courses and pass the capstone assessment. It records that you have trained across the full span of GLP-1RA care, mechanism to long-term review. It is a CPD certificate, not a regulated qualification – the disclaimer below explains what that means.

Q: Do I have to take the capstone assessment?

A: Only if you want the Advanced Certificate in GLP-1RA Therapy. The capstone assessment is a twenty-question quiz built around a new patient case, with a pass mark of 80% and unlimited attempts. You still receive a Certificate of Completion for each course as you finish it, with or without the capstone content.

Q: How long does it take, and can I fit it around work?

A: You earn seven CPD hours: around four hours of taught content, the rest recognising the reading and reflection good CPD involves. It is online, self-paced, and access never expires – complete it in a day or across shorter sessions.

Q: I have already bought one of the courses separately. Do I pay twice?

A: No. If you have already bought a course, you will see The Capstone Assessment: One Patient, Every Decision has been added to your CCH-X dashboard. You should continue by purchasing the remaining courses individually, and completing them, to unlock the capstone content. Basically, whichever route you take – buying courses individually or together as the Complete Programme – you will always pay the same price.

IS THIS PROGRAMME RIGHT FOR ME?

  • You would rather understand why a drug works than take its effect on trust.
  • You want to be sure on the borderline cases, not only the textbook ones.
  • You care what happens to a patient a year on, not just whether they started well.
  • You want your understanding of these drugs to stay current, not fixed at whatever you first learned.

It is not a regulated qualification and does not authorise or certify competence to prescribe GLP-1 receptor agonists or to carry out any other specific clinical role.

The Advanced Certificate and course certificates confirm completion of CPD activity and the capstone assessment only; they are not clinical credentials and may not be sufficient on their own for professional indemnity, employer authorisation, or any regulated scope of practice. Clinical decisions remain the responsibility of the individual clinician, who is expected to practise within their own scope, registration and local clinical governance. Nothing in the course materials replaces national prescribing guidance or individual clinical judgement.
