Despite one in four adults and one in five children aged 11 or over being affected, there are few comprehensive education programmes that equip HCPs with the skillset to manage the complexities of obesity. How should sensitive conversations about weight be initiated? Which interventions are evidence-based?
In this discussion, authors Feenie and Hinchliffe highlight initiatives such as Southwark’s “Everybody’s Business” strategy, which incorporates online training modules developed by the College of Contemporary Health to enhance the competency of both healthcare and public-facing professionals in obesity care.

Find an examination of the significant association between obesity and adverse COVID-19 outcomes. Individuals with obesity are at increased risk of severe illness and mortality from COVID-19, due to factors such as impaired respiratory function, chronic inflammation, and associated comorbidities like type 2 diabetes. This paper highlights two pressing needs: for HCPs to consider obesity as a critical factor in COVID-19 risk assessments; and for the integration of weight management strategies into public health responses.
