WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR

For healthcare professionals who give nutrition advice to patients managing their weight – and know that “eat more vegetables” is not enough.

Ideal for: GPs, practice nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists, pharmacists, health visitors, occupational therapists, psychologists, community nurses, and any practitioner who wants to understand the foundational links between nutrition and weight management.

WHY HCPs NEED THIS COURSE RIGHT NOW

A patient asks: “Should I try keto? My friend lost 3 stone on it.” You know different diets work for different people, but you cannot explain why. You give vague advice – and the patient tries whatever they read online.
Without solid nutrition foundations, patients follow fads that fail, regain weight and lose trust in professional guidance. Meanwhile, preventable disease develops because effective nutrition interventions are never implemented.
Nutrition & Weight Management Essentials covers what makes the difference: food, metabolism and energy balance and evidence-based interventions.
In 6 hours, you will give nutrition recommendations with confidence – understanding why approaches work for some patients but not others and equipped with foundational knowledge to guide effectively.

This course answers your critical questions:

1. What determines whether a dietary approach will work for an individual patient?

Energy balance, metabolism, and behaviour interact differently in every patient. Generic recommendations ignore these mechanisms – which is why they so often fail.

 2. Where do you start when a patient’s weight is clearly linked to their diet?

Asking “what do you normally eat?” is not enough. You need proper assessment tools before you can recommend meaningful changes.

3. The evidence base for dietary interventions: what does it actually say?

Low-carb, low-fat, intermittent fasting – the research exists. You need to know what it shows, when each approach has merit and when it does not.

WHAT WILL I BE ABLE TO DO?

After this course, you will:

  • Explain why weight loss is not just “calories in, calories out – Understand metabolism, energy regulation and weight loss in ways you can explain to patients
  • Assess nutrition properly before making recommendations – Use evidence-based tools to evaluate dietary intake, behaviour patterns and what is actually driving weight fluctuations
  • Know which dietary approaches work and when – Understand the evidence behind different interventions and move beyond one-size-fits-all approaches
  • Connect nutrition advice to disease prevention – See how weight management through nutrition affects diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other conditions you already manage

“This course was excellent overall, very practical and evidence-based. I especially appreciated the focus on long-term, patient-centred approaches, and the blend of case studies, quizzes and interactive learning.”
