Online CPD Course for Healthcare Professionals

GLP-1RAs in Practice: Supporting Patients During Treatment

The patient on Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro is losing weight and tolerating treatment – so the appointment seemingly goes well. But what of the unasked questions about nutrition, muscle and the long term?

In two hours, this course shows you how to support patients on GLP-1RAs over the months and years ahead: what to ask, what to monitor and when to refer.

NEW COURSE. NOW LIVE!

WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR

This course is designed for healthcare professionals who work with patients on GLP-1RA therapy and want to manage the entire arc of treatment, from nutrition to referral.

Ideal for: GPs, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, dietitians, diabetes specialists, physician associates, paramedics, physiotherapists, psychologists, mental health professionals, and other registered health professionals who support patients on GLP-1RA treatment pathways.

On a GLP-1RA, the weight is the easiest thing to measure. It is not the measure of success.

WHY HCPs NEED THIS COURSE NOW

The weight is down, so the treatment is working. It is the natural conclusion, and the patient draws it too, because the number on the scale is the thing everyone is watching.
But weight is only the loudest signal, not the truest one. A patient can be losing weight and losing muscle with it, or slipping nutritionally, or heading for problems the scale will never show. Reading success by weight alone is an easy mistake to make.
GLP-1RAs in Practice: Supporting Patients During Treatment shows you the full picture of how a patient is really doing, drawn from everything that matters and not the one figure that happens to be easiest to see.
You will finish the course knowing how to assess how each patient is doing, underneath the headline. So, when you tell someone the treatment is working, you will be certain it is.

THIS COURSE ANSWERS YOUR CRITICAL QUESTIONS

1. He has plateaued and thinks the medication has stopped working. What do I tell him?

Explaining the plateau the right way keeps him on board, rather than ready to give up.

2. She has done well for months, but progress has settled. Do I push the dose higher or leave it?

There is a clear way to decide whether to step up, hold, or step down, based on the patient rather than the calendar.

3. Her appetite has all but gone, and she is eating next to nothing. What should I actually be telling her to eat?

A specific set of priorities protects her health while she eats so little, and most patients never hear them.

WHAT WILL I BE ABLE TO DO?

On completing this course you will:

  • Protect health while the appetite is suppressed – know what to prioritise and what to watch for, so a patient eating very little stays well-nourished. Nutrition, Lean Mass and Micronutrients in Practice is yours to keep for every consultation after this.
  • Read the response, not just the result – at any review, know what to assess beyond the obvious and what a complete picture should include, inside a routine appointment.
  • Manage treatment over time, with a plan – handle a plateau, judge when to adjust the dose, and prepare a patient for life after treatment. The GLP-1RA Review: Six Domains and Dose Decisions is there every time you need it.
  • Refer at the right moment – recognise when dietetic, psychological, or specialist input is needed. When to Refer: Triggers for Multidisciplinary Support stays with you for exactly those decisions.

  • End-of-course quiz and Certificate of Completion

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do I need specialist knowledge in GLP-1RA care before I start?

A: No. If you are already seeing patients on these medications, you have everything you need. If you would like a grounding in how the medications work first, our companion course GLP-1RAs in Focus – Why Drugs Like Ozempic Work is a good place to start.

Q: How long does the course take?

A: Two hours of study in total, including the assessment. Fully self-paced – complete it in one sitting or return to sections as needed. Your progress is saved automatically.

Q: Can I claim this course for appraisal and revalidation?

A: Yes. The course provides 2 CPD points and a Certificate of Completion suitable for appraisal and revalidation portfolios with the GMC, NMC, GPhC, and HCPC.

Q: What if my organisation uses different prescribing pathways?

A: The frameworks and decision-making tools in this course are grounded in current NICE guidance and the ADA 2026 Standards of Care. The principles apply across settings – adapt them to your own practice context.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?

  • You like to understand the evidence behind a decision, not just the instruction
  • You want every patient to leave knowing more than their weight, and to know you checked
  • You would rather be the clinician colleagues come to than the one who defers the question
  • You want the hardest part of GLP-1RA care to be a part you have mastered
